A healthy discernment process that invests in you.
We’ve developed an extensive discernment process to help you discover your specific gifts and abilities and to help you discern if the Vineyard community of churches might be a good fit for you.
We want to help you hear from God, and from others, that this is something you should be investing your life in. Through the process, our community will come alongside you to discern your calling, help train you for success, and coach you through each step along the way.
The result of a healthy discernment process is confidence in your calling even though you don’t have all the answers. Let’s begin the journey.
1. Start Your Discernment Process
We want to help you discern if church planting is the right thing for you at this time in your life. Biblical discernment is never something that’s practiced alone, it’s meant to be a community endeavor. When you look at how God called the Apostle Paul into church planting in Acts 13, the Holy Spirit spoke to the community of leaders. This process is designed to help you hear God through your community.
If you’re ready to begin, we invite you to complete this initial application. Our team will come alongside you, providing tools, direction, and encouragement on your journey.
2. Develop a Plan for Growth
As you continue the discernment process, you’ll get an honest look at your strengths and weaknesses. None of us arrive on the scene fully developed and ready to go. We’re all in a process of growth and development. The first tool is an initial online assessment from Lifeway Research. This tool looks at overall church planting skill-set development as well spiritual gifts, spiritual formation, and the risk factors.
Then, you’ll receive follow up support with a trained Vineyard Pastor to help you read your reports and assessments. Together, you will develop a plan for growth moving forward.
3. Develop Church Planting Competencies
You might have years of ministry experience and need only focused church planter training or you might be just starting out and want a more holistic picture of what it takes to lead a church. We want to tailor a growth plan for you that sets you on the right track to plant a healthy Vineyard church.
We can help you find the right training program so that you feel confident in your skills. Start with our online course designed to help you develop the characteristics of a church planter.
4. Apply to Plant a Vineyard Church
No one is expected to do it alone. As you fill out the application to plant a Vineyard church, you’re joining into the family of Vineyard churches — and getting all of the relationships and opportunities that come along with that.
On the application, we will ask you about your vision for the church you hope to plant, pertinent information about your ministry experience, and why it is you want to work with the Vineyard.
5. Pastoral Assessment Interview
As you continue the discernment process, you’re going to have a longer conversation with with someone who has planted a church and is skilled at helping others assess their own readiness. During this pastoral interview, you’ll be assessed on the twelve characteristics that are essential for church planters over the long haul and you’ll get to receive hands on prayer for the journey ahead.
6. Campion Psychological Assessment
The psychological conversation and assessment assesses your current level of readiness from many different angles. This will identify, among other things, personality strengths and self-care strategies that are individualized to you for longevity in the planting experience. Many of our pastors have commented that they wish they had this type of assessment in the early phases of their planting processes.
You’ll have an opportunity to discuss specific recommendations for focused training or mentoring that will help you stay healthy over the long haul. This step really can increase your confidence that you’re prepared to plant.
7. Complete your official release process
This is where you have the opportunity to become an official planter with the Vineyard. By partnering with the Vineyard, you are joining a movement of church planting churches. Building relationship with other leaders is integral for your success. Let us know if you haven’t met your area and regional leaders, we’ll happily introduce you.
To complete your release process, you will fill out a legal packet and paperwork that will be signed by your sending pastor, and those regional and national leaders. Once these documents have been filled out, Multiply Vineyard will send your church plant start-up funds. Welcome to the family!
