The Residency+ Program
Church planting and leadership development program for your local church
I have been developing and running a residency program in our church for years now. Every year we have produced at least one church planter and many other great leaders from the program. I'm even more excited about the Residency+ program, as we are partnering with Vineyard Institute for an even more in-depth training experience for leaders in the Vineyard.

Key Program Features:
Essentially, pastors, the Residency+ Program is a leadership development machine designed specifically for you. It is carefully planned to cover the major topics that young pastors and church planters will need to learn and grow. At the same time, it’s flexible enough for each pastor to adapt it as you like to best fit your church and schedule.
Local & Online:
The model that we are using is a hybrid learning model that includes both traditional teaching methods as well as the best of Vineyard Institute’s online learning community. The program is run twice per month in with a cohort of students in your local church and led by you the pastor. A healthy frequency is to meet twice per month for 3-4 hours. This may seem like a lot of time, but the amount of depth you can go into in that time is needed for the content that will be provided. Developing leaders has always taken time. This is core to healthy multiplying Vineyard churches.
The online component is where the “+” of the Residency+ program comes in. The VI learning platform will be a storehouse of information for your students to go to. We will manage all of the details needed for communication, curriculum, assignments, grading. This allows you that pastor to walk through and mentor students through the material without the extra time and work needed for the details. We know how busy you are as a pastor.
The online community of VI will provide a space for all of the Residency+ Programs nationwide to learn, discuss, and ask questions together. It will be a significant factor in learning to be connected to the larger Vineyard movement outside of your local Vineyard church. We will build regular discussion for students and pastors. You will be provided opportunities for online meetings, webinars to interact with key Vineyard leaders from around the movement to be encouraged and inspired.
This is one of the best things we have ever done at our church. Hands down. It is like a leadership engine for our church. We are trying to figure out how to include more students in Fall 2015.” Tom Camacho | Pastor at Blue Ridge Vineyard in Asheville, NC | Residency+ Pilot Site
Structured & Flexible:
The curriculum will provide enough structure so that you as the local pastor will not have to recreate the wheel to run a Residency+ Program for your leaders. The time consuming work of curriculum development has been done. You get to do great work of walking your leaders through the curriculum and allowing you time to go deeper into the teaching, mentoring, and training that they will be doing in your church. All you will need to do is read a little ahead, pray for your students, and walk them through the material.
With the structure in place, we want to allow each Vineyard pastor to take the material and contextualize it into their own context. Each year we will be tweaking the curriculum and asking for your feedback to make it better and more effective. You will have a voice in training leaders in your church as well as training the next generation of Vineyard leaders.
If you choose to run the program, you get:
- Access to excellent technology and instruction in VI for your developing leaders.
- A full year’s worth of leadership development curriculum for you and your students.
- Additional training on how to be an effective educator from Multiply Vineyard via several webinars led my national leaders in the Vineyard movement.
- Four weekend intensive courses for recruitment prior to the beginning the program: Vision, Discover, Health, and Growth. All will be included in the curriculum as well if you already have interested students.
- A cohort of well developed leaders at the end of the year who are ready to plant churches, lead ministries, and lead in a variety of other ways in your church.
The program has been very effective. Our residency has been more focused on leadership development for within our local church (only two of the nine are planning to church plant), but it's been excellent. They are all growing, getting more experience, etc. And I've also learned a ton about what I want to do different this coming Fall when I start the Residency+ Program.” Luke Geraty | Pastor at Trinity Christian Fellowship in Stanley, WI | Residency+ Pilot Site
