Guiding Principles of Multiply Vineyard
Our vision is to extend the kingdom of God by helping our local churches fulfill their God-given call to multiply, to reproduce, to plant new churches. Our church planting team works alongside our existing churches to help facilitate multiplication of new Vineyard churches who will in turn transform their local communities.
1. We invest proactively in relationship with one another.
The Vineyard family is only as strong as our relationships with one another. As we intentionally work together to foster communication, respect and affection, we will be able to provide each other with the support, sharing of resources, and friendship that we all long for. Therefore, we highly encourage regular attendance in area and regional events, retreats, and national conferences to help develop and maintain relationships with other churches and leaders in the movement.
2. We partner with the Holy Spirit to innovatively multiply everything.
We believe that God is already at work in every community in our country and around the world, and we seek to recognize and partner with the Holy Spirit in whatever the Father is doing. Therefore, we embrace a diverse range of effective approaches to church multiplication, including classic church planting, multisites, missional communities, and other experiments in church multiplication, all in order to foster a culture of freedom, creativity, and risk-taking for multiplying churches.
3. We multiply churches out of existing healthy Vineyard churches.
A healthy local church effective in evangelism, discipleship, and leadership multiplication is the entity best suited to multiply a new church. Because we reproduce what we know, we encourage church planters to be involved in a healthy local Vineyard church where they can embrace our statement of faith, come to understand and embody our values, and learn to live out the reality of our distinctives. We believe the local church is the best place to explore and discern a possible calling to lead in the body of Christ.
4. We respect and empower local leadership.
We work to support, encourage, en-vision, challenge, and resource our local pastors, area leaders, and regional leaders to multiply leaders and churches. Our local leaders know the areas where they minister the best, and have the closest relationships with the people they are training. We won’t bypass or usurp our local leaders working to multiply their churches.
5. We equip pastors and leaders holistically in the context of our local churches.
Training new leaders is best accomplished in local Vineyard churches using the resources of our entire movement. We seek to equip these leaders in three large areas: Knowing (theological education), Being (life and spiritual formation), and Doing (practical ministry experience). We expect these new leaders to engage in ministry in a local church before being released to lead on their own. This process enables us to discern together their calling and readiness to lead.
6. We encourage local churches to partner with each other to multiply churches.
A church planting partnership consists of churches working together to accomplish what none of them could do alone. We believe that every single Vineyard church can help birth new churches by partnering with other churches that share a vision for a particular target area. Partnerships make church multiplication available to churches of all sizes and ages. No church is expected to go it alone!
7. We trust God to provide the resources necessary to accomplish his vision.
God is faithful to supply where he guides. God has already given us the resources we need in order to be healthy, including financial and leadership resources. We can trust that He will give us what we need to do what he's called us to. Our task is to be faithful with what God has given us. We want to foster creativity with the resources God has given us, believing we have what we need to accomplish what he's asked us to do.
