We’re always working on finding and developing new ways to train our leaders to go out and plant churches, lead ministries, and serve God better with the gifts he’s given them. A few wonderful new opportunities have cropped up lately, and we’d like to take some time to highlight them for you, whether you are exploring your calling or you are leading a church and want more resources to help guide new potential planters and leaders.

Vineyard Institute Church Planting Course

A class on church planting has existed in one form or another around the Vineyard for a while now. Perhaps some of you went through VLI’s weekend intensive course on the subject. But right now, Michael Gatlin and Derek Morphew are working together to take the teaching materials on church planting that we’ve used in the past and develop them into a brand new course through the Vineyard Institute.

The course will cover material like how to be a really healthy leader and raise up new leaders. How to deal with money. How to adapt as you grow. How to reach out into your community. How to develop, hone, communicate, and hold to a strong vision for your church. Whether you are thinking about planting, are in the process of planting, or have already launched your church plant, there’s a wealth of useful teaching here!

Michael is currently in the process of recording the sessions for this course, and it should be available to students for the fall semester. If you haven’t heard about the Vineyard Institute (VI) yet, you should check it out here. The school itself is pretty new and it has gleaned the very best of the best that the Vineyard has to offer in terms of biblical and theological teaching and training. And it’s not just for pastors. VI is for leaders at all levels of church life and ministry.

Applications for the fall quarter are due by August 25th, and classes begin on September 15th, 2014.

Heroic Leadership Institute

HLI is a 9-month boot camp designed for young leaders (roughly 18-35) to start on the path to finding their gifts and calling in the kingdom of God, and be formed as a leader and a follower of Jesus. The idea behind it is that true heroism is living a life that is focused on something other than yourself. HLI seeks to help leaders find their true identity in Jesus and learn to lead from that solid core, so they can become people who bring healing and transformation to the world they encounter. Right now, HLI runs in four locations across the United States. Find out more at www.godogreatthings.com

New Church Planting Internship and Residency Programs

Some other training tools we’ve been working on for pastors and churches to use, are templates for churches to set up church planting internship and residency programs. We’re making a few different options to fit the needs of various sizes of local church. We realize that what makes sense for a very large church with thousands of members is extremely impractical to implement in a church of just a few hundred people, and vice versa.

We’ll provide outlines for the basic structure of your programs, and provide suggested topics, discussion points, materials, and reading lists for your church planting interns and residents to work through with you. Within the basic outline we provide, though, each church will have lots of freedom to implement the program in a way that works well at their local level.

We are gearing these to be applicable across all kinds of churches, serving different regions and cultures. So whatever the setting and demographics of your church, we’ll have a program that works for you.
